Running for Public Office (longterm goals)

Just curious and I'd really like some feedback. In the longterm, how do you see the movement here in Jacksonville? Certainly change won't happen via the 'trickle down effect' that's so popular even though it's yielded disastrous results. Change has to happen from the bottom up. So I propose anyone who wants to run to public office sometime in the future begin to think about a platform and start gathering votes on a personal level. It's going to be people like you and me that don't have corporate ties and have mighty convictions that's going to change this system. Any thoughts?
