Should we OCCUPY (as they're doing on WALL ST.) or VISIT Hemming Plaza
Question:
1. Should we OCCUPY Part-time, on weekends downtown when it's essentially a ghost-town, out of sight of the public, OR
2. Should we OCCUPY Hemming Plaza Full-time, when the politicians are there and downtown is bustling with activity (like the OCCUPY WALL ST. folks are doing)?
Which do you think you would be more effective? And why?

I think visit as there is no private venue that I know of downtown to use with permission of the owners.
To Occupy the park by staying is not going to last more than a day. You know the police.

The next step in this movement might be a fundraiser that could be used to send delegates to Occupy Wall St. This would bypass the need for any city to risk 'Occupying' a park in protest, while also allowing people who are unable to participate locally to be represented, as well as(possibly most importantly) establishing NYC and OWS as the base of operations in the r(evolution). Think 1770's Continental Congress. With the use of internet and social media, these delegates would be able to report and receive feedback instantly. Any thoughts?

I think we should Occupy within the law. If there is a curfew, come back as soon as we can in the mornings. When you need a break, try to get at least one person to represent us. I could do that.

I move that we should start setting a time to meet there every single day and help it grow by going as many days as we can during the week and weekend. If we keep this up, soon enough we have enough people that there will be someone there every single day at every single hour.
Let's Occupy Jacksonville by making our public square a public square: of public betterment; of the spreading of ideas for the public good and welfare; and for connecting us to this bigger movement of the spreading of good ideas and public betterment!

I'm going to be at the plaza tomorrow and Friday at 1 pm.
I can be there at 1 pm tomorrow and Friday. Curfew is just an annoying obstacle. I think people are allowed to enter the plaza at sunrise and stay until sundown. Get core people to commit to a schedule and make sure people are there. Don't we need to get in touch with the Education and Empowerment Team. Or would it be the Event Team. The Tech Team and the Media Team will need to know what we're doing. I'm going at 1 tomorrow.

Re: Should we OCCUPY (as they're doing on WALL ST.) or VISIT Hemming Plaza
two ways we could successfully occupy a location
1)find a property owner who will allow us to occupy their space
2)strength in numbers, 200+ people who sit down and say "NO we are not moving"
while it is still possible for that many people to be arrested, the more people the more difficult. We have already (and very successfully) shown that we are peaceful, that we are cautious, and we are courteous.
with all that proven and in mind, i see it being a very bad PR move for JSO to round everyone up in paddy wagons

From personal experience, JSO only cares about reputation for so long. If you've watched the News Interviews, even though on the surface they aren't condescending, there's definitely a level of dismissal of our cause and our members as cretins and low-lifes, so they wouldn't get all that much back-lash from arresting all of us. Illegally occupying, especially in Jacksonville, with less than like, one-thousand people, probably isn't going to happen. Contact business owners and property-owners in strategic areas to find out if anyone would let us use their land, and then we'll pass it off to the Legal team to find out any laws that exist beyond the jurisdiction of the land-owners.

I appreciate the encouragement we have gotten from JSO at our meetings and protection during our walks. JSO is providing us a valuable service.

We need to realize we are not safe from arrest, and in an area a BIT more intolerant than NEW YORK, we need to watch our asses.
