FSCJ
Hey everone. My name is Telka and I was sitting in on the discussions at the assembly yesterday and liked what was said. I was curious if there were any students or teachers at any of the FSCJ campuses in this group. I want to get people together to set up a teach-in on campus, perhaps in the common courtyard area. I plan to see what would have to be done to have a table with flyers and the like set up and perhaps we could make it a monthly event or some such, and go through the campuses? Thoughs or suggestions?

Re: FSCJ
My name is Gilbert, and I am also a student at FSCJ. I definitely agree we should organize a teach-in on campus, to bring awareness of these important issues to students.
We need to figure out:
1. Which local professors (UNF, FSCJ, etc.) or knowledgeable people are willing to teach?
2. Which campus and where on campus we will hold our teach-in? Indoors? Outdoors?
3. What issues will be discussing?
4. How will we promote it? Will we have support from the school?
We discussed this a bit at the last general assembly. I believe we will have some info emailed to us from a UNF sociology professor about a teach-in. We were discussing having this as part of an Occupy demonstration but after giving it though I like the idea of having it on campus and inviting every student who wishes to attend. (Flyers, posters, etc.)
Knowledge is power, and the most important weapon available to us!

Re: FSCJ
We also have a teach-in happening at our next general assembly which is coming up this Saturday. So in addition to trying to find local professors for on campus events, we also have to consider speakers for this weekend. Several local professors have expressed interest in our movement. One such faculty member is a facilitator for this group. I believe Sasha's background is in Sociology. Perhaps we could invite her to give a sociological perspective on social movements? I'm not sure if she would be willing but I think she would be perfect. What do you think?
*Edit Sasha has agreed to be one of the speakers at the teach-in. Dr. Henry Thomas, a retired Political Science professor and former president of the Faculty union at UNF, has also agreed to talk.
